SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna June 27 (PNA) -– The Laguna-based provincial and district offices of the National Statistics Office, Depts. of Public Works and Highways as well as Social Welfare and Development reported Thursday they embarked on their respective pro-environment and pro-people projects this week.

This is to sustain vital government programs despite changes in the local government landscape by June 30.

The NSO-Laguna Provincial Office headed by Provincial Statistics Officer Magdalena T. Serqueña led statistics and census officers and staff in the tree-planting activities on Arbor Day starting on Tuesday at the Malabanban Watershed of the San Pablo City Water District here.

Serqueña said that the provincial census office undertakes the year tree-planting activities not only during Arbor Day this month but also on other pro-environment undertakings on auspicious occasions.

The Laguna NSO provincial office also conducted the tree-planting activities last April in celebration of Earth Day.

The provincial census office head said they have yearly scheduled the pro-nature activities in time for the NSO founding anniversary and National Statistics month celebration in September.

The NSO group called on Al Genove, San Pablo City Water District public relations officer before proceeding to the watershed planting site.

The Team NSO-Laguna is also conferred “Bayani ng Kalikasan” (environment heroes) recognition by the city water district last Abril for their environmental concerns and undertakings.

Besides tree planting activities, the NSO Laguna also embarks on education and information campaign on environmental conservation and nature care.

Meanwhile, the Laguna 3rd Engineering District Office also assured city residents here of the transparent infrastructure works and road projects as they echoed the agency’s celebratory theme “Sa DPWH, Bawa’t Isa, Tulay Sa Pagbabago”(at DPWH, everyone is a bridge for change).

Leading the 115th DPWH Anniversary local celebration here early this week, District Engineer Pol M. delos Santos reiterated the agency’s thrust for transparent and honest infrastructure projects shedding off its tainted image on graft and corruption.

Engineer delos Santos urged colleagues to reflect on the anniversary theme as worthy public servants entrusted with great public responsibilities.

He also underscored DPWH employees here to serve as “bridges” connecting the right path towards livable and harmonious communities as their scope of work and vast expanse of responsibilities comprise San Pablo City and the towns of Alaminos, Calauan, Victoria, Rizal, Nagcarlan and Liliw in Laguna.

At the same time, the Laguna and city offices of the DSWD also reported on Thursday that they have handed recently the quarterly social pensions of P1,500 pesos each of the 90 indigent Senior Citizens in the city.

Brindon E. Malayo, bonded officer of the Laguna Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, assisted by this City Social Welfare and Development Officer Grace D. Adap led the cash assistance distribution.

The monthly financial assistance is one of the National Programs for Senior Citizens for indigent senior citizens ages 77 years old and above who have no financial means, any pension or family monetary support in their twilight years. (PNA)
