ILOILO CITY, June 28 — More than 45,000 seedlings have been planted all over Iloilo City in a span of three years in support of the National Greening Program of President Benigno Aquino III initiated in 2011.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the regular conduct of tree-planting activities strengthened the citys environmental governance initiatives by cultivating an ecologically-friendly and clean and green metropolis.
City Hall employees, schools, barangay officials, government agencies, and non-government organizations have planted 15,659 fruit trees and ornamental plants as of end of June. Some 30,000 seedlings were planted in 2011-2012.
City Agriculturist Geraldine Hautea said the seedlings are being grown in the citys nursery by the City Agriculture Office and can be requested for free by interested groups. (PNA)
