MANILA, June 28 — For surrendering a bag containing an iPhone, iPad, passport and other important documents plus USD1,200 in cash to military authorities who eventually located the owner, an honest caretaker will be commended and presented a plaque of appreciation by the Philippine Army during flag-raising ceremonies this July 1.
Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang, Army spokesperson, identified the caretaker as Joel A. Cajandab, 27 and one of the 11 employees of the Ultimate Care Janitorial Services.
He said Cajandab found the bag containing the valuables at the PA Grandstand in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City while helping organizers prepare for the "Precious Moments Treats for Moms," a mothers day activity conducted by a private organization last May 3.
While on our way out after the preparation, I saw the unattended bag near the stairs. When I could not find the owner, I surrendered it directly to the duty guard, Cajandab narrated in Filipino.
The owner was later identified as a certain Jose Eduardo P. Sonillo, Precious Moments executive director, who commended Cajandab to the Army and urged that an award be given the latter to show his immense appreciation.
I was shocked when I first learned about the award. I never thought Id be recognized for something Ive done just because it was the right thing to do. I hope this inspires caretakers like me not to take interest on things that they find. Those are only material things, there are more important things in life," Cajandab stressed.
Meanwhile, the PA will also award a plaque of appreciation to the Philippine Precious Moments Collectors Community for its successful mothers day event for both military and civilian moms here last May 5.
Among the activities conducted are the health fair (blood typing, blood pressure check-up and Hermatocrit count), singing contest, trade exhibit, skills demonstration and training (fruit and vegetables carving, table setting, napkin folding and scrap booking), entrepreneurial lectures and demonstrations and other pampering activities (make over, nail art, hair cut and distribution of special coupons and gift certificates).
With the help of the dentists from the Army General Hospital, dental treats for moms were also given such as free dental check-up and dental treatments. (PNA)
