1st LD: One killed, four wounded in bomb attacks in Iraq's Anbar

RAMADI, Iraq, Oct. 21 — At least one policeman was killed and four others wounded on Monday in coordinated bomb attacks, including two suicide bombings, on a police headquarters in Iraq's western province of Anbar, a provincial police source said.

The attacks occurred in the morning when two suicide bombers blew themselves up at the police command in the city of Fallujah, some 50 km west of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The first blast was followed by mortar barrage and small arms fire by gunmen on the site, sparking fierce clashes between the guards and the attackers, the source said.

"Initial reports said that at least one policeman was killed and four wounded, including a police officer," the source said.

The attacks prompted the provincial operations command to block all the city entrances and impose indefinite curfew, the source said.Monday's attack came a day after suicide bomb attacks on a local government compound in the city of Rawa in Anbar province that killed at least 12 people and wounded some 27 others.

Insurgent attacks continue in the volatile Sunni Arab area in west of Baghdad that stretches through Anbar province to Iraq's western borders with Syria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. (PNA/Xinhua)
