DUMAGUETE CITY, Oct. 21 — Pakol Festival of the municipality of Sta. Catalina bested five other contingents to win this years championship in the Buglasan Festival of Festivals of Negros Oriental.
Hambabalud Festival of Jimalalud placed 2nd while the Tawo-Tawo Festival of Bayawan City came in at 3rd place.
Other awards include Best ID Arch (Ayuquitan Festival of San Jose), Best Costume Contingent (Tawo-Tawo Festival), Best Choreography (Pakol Festival), Best Drum Corps (Hambabalud Festival) and Best In Street Dance (Tawo-Tawo Festival).
The Buglasan Festival of Festivals, which includes a grand showdown and a street dancing competition, is the provinces premier showcase of the socio-cultural heritage and uniqueness of each town and city in Negros Oriental and is held every October.
The grand showdown was held Friday morning at the Lamberto Macias Sports Center in the capital city of Dumaguete. In the afternoon, the contingents also participated in the street dancing competition around the major thoroughfares while the Buglasan 2013 King and Queen pageant was held in the evening of the same day at the Freedom Park.
Six pairs, representing their respective local government units/festival contingent, competed for this years title of Buglasan King and Queen.
Crowned Buglasan 2013 Queen was Ivy Condes Clemente of Ayuquitan Festival, San Jose while Christine Bellosillo of Hudyaka Festival, Bais City and Rosette de la Cruz of Pakol Festival, Sta. Catalina placed 1st and 2nd runners-up, respectively.
Named Buglasan 2013 King was Justino Rafael Alcala of Hudyaka sa Bais Festival of Bais City, with Kyle Barte of Tawo-Tawo Festival and Nicandro Tom Cruise Boiser of Hambabalud Festival placing 1st and 2nd runners-up.
Minor awards were also given during the Buglasan Festival pageant, with the corresponding winners, as follows:
For Buglasan 2013 Festival Queen, Best in Costume award went to Lindsay Belnas of Tawo-Tawo Festival; Best Speaker and Best Performer awards to Christine Bellosillo of Hudyaka sa Bais Festival; Best in Filipiniana, Ivy Condes Clemente of Ayuquitan Festival; and Best Designer, Gerry Fernandez of Ayuquitan Festival.
For the Buglasan 2013 Festival King minor awards, the winners were Nicandro Tom Cruise Boiser of Hambabalud Festival, Best in Costume; Best Speaker, Wayne Banaybanay of Pakol Festival; Best Performer, Justino Rafaiel Alcala of Hudyaka Festival; Best in Barong Tagalog, Dominic John Colina of Ayuquitan Festival.
Pakol Festival also received the Best Entourage Award.
The Buglasan Festival, which reeled off last October 11, culminated Sunday evening with a closing program and grand fireworks display at the Rizal Boulevard, as well as with other activities such as live performing bands and the awarding of winners of participating local government units in the booth category, among others.
