BUTUAN CITY, Nov. 28 — A large volume of logs believed to be illegally cut and worth P700,000 was found abandoned by a joint team of authorities conducting operations against illegal logging here in the region Wednesday morning.
Report from the Butuan City Police Office said that a joint team composed of personnel from the Butuan City Public Safety Company, Regional Intelligence Division, Butuan City Police Station 1, Presidential Anti Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) Camp Crame, LGU-Butuan and Department Of Environment And Natural Resources-City Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO) who were conducting anti-illegal logging operations, found 240 logs floated at the Agusan River particularly near Barangay Mahogany, this city.
The logs were found fastened and connected to each piece with ropes, with a main rope tied to a tree at the river bank to keep it from being carried away by the water current. It was also believed to be abandoned with no claimant.
The logs were properly scaled by DENR personnel and was estimated to amount P698,830.00 in market value. The forest products are now in the custody of the PAOCC for proper disposition. (PNA)
