MANILA, Nov 28 (PNA) — Sen. Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III on Thursday lauded eight-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao who triumphed over American boxer Brandom Rios in the match held in Macau, China last Sunday (Nov 24).
Pimentel said that Pacquiaos victory only proved that with hard work, discipline, determination, and proper motivation, it is not impossible to dominate and defeat a taller and heavier opponent like Rios.
He also said that Pacquiaos success was much needed to uplift the Filipino spirit after back-to-back calamities such as typhoons and an earthquake have struck the country.
"He was born to represent the Filipinos in the highly-competitive world of boxing, Pimentel, who like Pacquiao also, hails from Mindanao, said.
Most of his fights are recital of his talents and skills rather than a savage boxing brawl," the senator added.
Pimentel has recently filed Senate Resolution 392 to extend an official commendation to Pacquiao.
He also pointed out that Pacquiao has brought boxing to a higher level by stories of his rise to fame.
When not training, Pacquiao continues to serve the country as congressman of the lone district of Sarangani Province. (PNA)
