MANILA, Jan. 31 — The Philippine Army (PA) on Friday announced it will be holding a shooting competition at its Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City headquarters this Feb. 1.
Capt. Anthony Bacus, Army spokesperson, said that this year's "Game of the Generals" will be called the "The Ultimate Shooting Challenge".
The event will be graced by President Benigno S Aquino III, who is also a shooting enthusiast himself.
Bacus said the PA's hosting of the event is very timely as this will be the last time that Army commander Lt. Gen. Noel A. Coballes will be participating in the competition as an active member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
He added this is also a fitting tribute to Coballes as the official will be retiring from the military service effective Feb. 7.
The ongoing PA commander is one of the "shooting generals" who had continuously emerged as champion in the previous "Games of the Generals".
The latter is a regular event among the generals, and its equivalent rank to other government agencies, which aims to strengthen the bond, foster camaraderie and esprit d' corps among the competing government agencies; and to promote excellence in pistol marksmanship among the uniformed personnel and their counterpart.
Bacus said that participants in the competition include generals from the PA, Air Force, Navy, General Headquarters, Department of National Defense, Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, and the Presidential Security Group. (PNA)
