Senators reiterate call to transfer Napoles to regular jail

By Jelly F. Musico

MANILA, Feb. 26 (PNA) – Senators Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero and Aquilino ‘Koko’ Pimentel III on Wednesday urged the Department of Justice (DOJ) to ask the court to transfer alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles to a regular detention cell.

Escudero said Napoles has lost privilege to stay in special detention cell in Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna after she refused to name names in a Senate inquiry.

”What I understand is that she was detained there because she will speak against powerful persons in the government but she did not because she cannot remember anything,” Escudero said.

”There are no longer reasons for her to be accorded with special security. Who will hurt her? For me, she should be put in a regular jail,” he added.

Pimentel agreed with Escudero, saying “there is nobody who will kill her.”

”She said there are threats to her life but for me, I think, nobody even (whistleblower) Benhur Luy has no capability to kill her. I agree with Sen. Chiz that there is no life threat to Napoles,” Pimentel said.

Pimentel said Napoles should be detained in a regular jail in Makati City where she was charged with serious illegal detention by Luy.

Escudero and Pimentel said the government is spending so much money for Napoles’ security.

Under heavy police escorts, Napoles was brought at the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital in Quezon City on Wednesday for medical check up.

The doctors reportedly found a mass inside Napoles’ uterus but described “it was not alarming.” (PNA)
