N. Korea threatens to conduct "new type" of nuclear test

SEOUL, March 30 — North Korea threatened Sunday to conduct a fresh nuclear test if the United States steps up diplomatic pressure on Pyongyang over its recent launch of two medium-range ballistic missiles.

The North Korean Foreign Ministry said in a statement distributed by the official Korean Central News Agency that Pyongyang will not rule out testing "a new type" of nuclear weapon.

North Korea fired two medium-range ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan on Wednesday, the day the leaders of the United States, Japan and South Korea pledged to boost military cooperation at a trilateral summit in The Hague. (PNA/Kyodo)
