2014 Miss Daragang Magayon wants to be a doctor

LEGAZPI CITY, April 28 – Sixteen-year-old Jacquelyn Bernarte of Bacacay, Albay, the 2014 Miss Daragang Magayon, wants to be a doctor someday.

Bernarte won the title during a star-studded pageant on Saturday night at the Albay Astrodome.

Bernarte is an incoming first year BS Biology student at the Bicol University College of Science.

The Daragang Magayon Pageant was the second competition she joined after the Karagumoy Festival Pageant wherein she won as the Karagumoy Festival First Princess in her town.

At first she was hesitant to join because of her conservative parents but still she pursued her dreams.

"I just want to thank all the people who supported me — my parents, sisters and brothers — even if at first they didn't like me joining beauty pageants, but still they gave me a chance. I really can't believe it," Bernarte added.

To the question "What do you think Bicolanas need nowadays in order to win international pageants?" Bernarte answered, "Bicolanas are really beautiful and talented and the only way that they will win international pageants is to have confidence, as Yvette Marie Santiago said. Confidence will bring beacon to the Philippines."
