PIGCAWAYAN, North Cotabato, April 28 — Eight groups from various parts of Mindanao are coming to this progressive town for the most awaited Rodeo sa Cotabato 2014 as part of the celebration of North Cotabato's 100th foundation anniversary.
The Rodeo to be held at the municipal grounds on May 5-6, according to Dr. Rufino Suropia, OIC Provincial Veterinarian of Cotabato, is to be participated in by eight teams coming from the province and different parts of Mindanao.
They are the GBS Rodeo Team (Pigcawayan), USM Rodeo Team (Kabacan), Rodeo Club, Phils. (Kabacan), North Cotabato Wranglers (Mlang), Liberator (Carmen), Jimms Cowboy (Sarangani), CMU-SAAS (Bukidnon) and MOSCAT-KALAMAG (Misamis Oriental).
Dr. Suropia said that these teams are professional rodeo riders and have been actively involved in rodeos around the country.
Rodeo Sa Cotabato 2014 is one of the exciting events of the celebration of the centennial or the 100th founding anniversary of the province along with other significant activities.
The event aims to showcase the livestock industry of Cotabato province in a wider scope while in the same manner encourage the people to appreciate handling animals the right way, Dr. Suropia said in a radio interview.
The emerging Rodeo champion will receive P50,000 cash prize plus trophy, P35,000 cash prize plus trophy for the 1st runner-up and P20,000 cash prize plus trophy for the 2nd runner-up.
Apart from the grand prizes, the Rodeo will also feature other equally exciting contests such as grand parade carabao painting contest, horse race, goat race, tug of war, rodeo king and queen, rodeo art exhibit and competition and many others which will surely add up to the thrill of the main event which is the rodeo competition.
But before all of these take place, a grand parade of carabaos and horses, rodeo teams, local government officials and guests will happen on May 4. Cash prizes also await the winners of these activities, Dr. Suropia also said.
Rima Tanaid, event coordinator of Rodeo Sa Cotabato 2014, said that the Rodeo Sa Cotabato Technical Working Group will meet today in Pigcawayan to finalize some more important arrangements prior to the dates of the event.
The latest development, Tanaid said, is that the TWG has already constructed the arena for the rodeo last week and other important preparations are being attended to properly such as communications with the participating teams and the local government units within the province.
The event is expected to draw thousands of people from all over Cotabato and other provinces and is highly anticipated to be a big event in the centennial celebrations of Cotabato. (PNA)
