MANILA, May 20 (PNA) — Troopers from the 1003rd Infantry Brigade are now conducting pursuit operations against the rebel group that attacked President Roxas Municipal Police Station in North Cotabato early morning Tuesday.
In the said attack, which was repelled by police officers assigned to the above-mentioned station, three rebel fighters were killed while one policeman was wounded in the attack that began 3: 30 a.m.
"Around 3:30 a.m. May 20 President Roxas MPS of North Cotabato was harrased by unidentified number of NPA on board one white elf truck and multi-cab," Eastern Mindanao Command spokesperson Capt. Alberto Caber, said.
He added that the firefight lasted for 30 minutes during which the rebels sustained three fatalities prompting them to retreat towards Barangay Tuael, President Roxas, North Cotabato.
The wounded police officer, identified as a certain Insp. Rubio, police commander of President Roxas MPS, who is now undergoing treatment at the nearby Amas Provincial Hospital.
Rubio reportedly sustained fragment wounds in the head during the rebel attack.
Caber said reinforcing police and military units recovered two handheld radios, one M-16 and one M-14 automatic rifles, assorted ammunition, four cellphones, one medical kit and one Isuzu forward truck (RLY-731).
He added that the bodies of the three slain rebels were recovered.
One of the slain was identified as a certain "Revo".
As this develops, Eastern Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. Ricardo Rainier G. Cruz III directed military commanders in the area to support the Philippine National Police in their law enforcement operations. (PNA) CTB/PFN/ERCM (OJT)
