CAUAYAN CITY, ISABELA, June 25 — The National Irrigation Administration Magat River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-MRIIS) has called on rice farmers to use the irrigation water wisely to prevent spillage and wastage.
NIA-MRIIS operations manager Mariano Dancel made the call due to the continuous drop on the water level of the Magat dam reservoir due to the absence of rain in its watershed areas.
Dancel said that as of Monday, the Magat dam water level elevation was 162.91 meters, few meters before it will reach its critical level of 160 meters.
He said the dam has started supplying irrigation water last month to at least 50,000 hectares for its early wet cropping season program.
Dancel said the Magat dams irrigation facilities would be temporarily shut down if its water level reaches below 150 meters when there is no rainfall within its watershed areas in the coming days.
The NIA-MRIIS official has advised rice farmers who are recipients of the early wet cropping program to use water wisely to conserve water supply until the rainy season. (PNA)
