LEGAZPI CITY, June 24 — Legazpi City Mayor Noel E. Rosal has urged public market administrators of different local government units (LGUs) in Bicol to remember what they learned on the proper ways of solid waste disposal.
These LGU officials attended an Orientation on Ecological Solid Waste Management and other Environmental Laws for Public Market Administrators and a Climate Change Forum for Communities held at La Roca Restaurant on Tuesday.
The activity was spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau.
Environmental problem is one of the most alarming issues we have in our society today as it affects the younger generation, Rosal claimed.
He said solid waste management is everybodys concern and the responsibility of each individual as he believes that garbage starts from the household, market, different establishments, schools and parks, among others.
This kind of activity will serve as an additional knowledge to all the market administrators regarding the proper implementation of solid waste disposal to make sure that all the commodities such as meat, fish, vegetable, dry goods, storage and eatery sections in the market are clean and safe to the consuming public, Rosal added.
His administration, he said, is aggressively implementing the Integrated Ecological solid Waste Management Ordinance of the City by way of no collection, no segregation policy as its support to the Republic Act 9003 to ensure the protection of public health and the environment, which aims to promote the proper way of collecting garbage.
Rosal also told the participants of the activity that Legazpi City is also implementing the no burning of garbage in the backyard to reduce the Unintentionally Produced Persistent Organic Pollutants from waste materials that cause the adverse effect of global warming which triggers the climate change phenomenon.
