Landslide occurs in Leyte’s remote village

ORMOC CITY, July 29 — A landslide estimated at one-hectare wide and carrying a volume of water was sighted Monday in Sta. Cruz Butason of Tabango town in Leyte, according to Mayor Maria Corazon Remandaban, citing a text message sent to her by the Municipal Disaster-Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

The MDRRMO team that inspected the area that can be reached by a two-hour hike from the town proper, disclosed that the landslide posed a risk as water started to form a mini-dam at the eroded portion.

Meanwhile, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) is scheduled to conduct inspection in Tabango on Thursday.

Mayor Remandaban said that there are four households living near the area that were advised to vacate.

She added that a meeting with the municipal council is set on Thursday to report the matter for appropriate action. (PNA)
