MANILA, July 30 — Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle has expressed gratitude to President Benigno S. Aquino III for acknowledging him during the latter's State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA) on Monday.
But the Cardinal clarified that he was not the only one mentioned by the Chief Executive as he also thanked a number of other people.
"He also mentioned other people so that means there are many other individuals who are also concerned with our country," Tagle said in an interview.
He added, "If he thinks that I am one of those who are helping or concerned with the welfare of the people and the country, I thank him, but there are also other people, ordinary people, parents, teachers, authorities who are also concerned, in their own little way, with our country."
Tagle admitted that he was not able to watch the SONA since he was in a meeting.
"I was informed through text messages. I asked them why is my name mentioned?" the head of the Archdiocese of Manila said, adding that he is not President Aquino's spiritual adviser.
Asked on how he will describe his relationship with the President, he said, "Magkakilala, kung paano ako nakiki-relate sa iyo." (PNA)
