MANILA, Aug. 14 (PNA) — In light of the forthcoming National Teachers' Month (NTM) celebration starting Sept. 5 until Oct. 5 this year, the Metrobank Foundation Inc. has presented the prospective activities catered to recognize one of the noblest professions as it kicks-off with the awarding of Metrobank's Ten Outstanding Teachers.
The said awarding ceremony of teachers on Sept. 5 is one of the highlights of the month-long celebration which recognizes teachers who have served as models of excellence in the classroom and gained outstanding participation not only in schools but also in their respective communities.
A cash prize of half a million pesos will be given to each awarded teacher.
The Metrobank Foundation will be rewarding four elementary, four secondary and two college teachers whom they have chosen from among different provinces and cities in the country.
This year, NTM is anchored on the theme, "My Teacher, My Hero" to acknowledge the teachers' heroism in guiding and shaping the future of the youth.
Several activities and campaign are in store to commemorate and express gratitude to these unsung heroes.
On World Teachers' Day on Oct. 5, everyone is encouraged to say "Thank You!" to at least one teacher who has made a difference in his life.
"Our call is for everyone to just remember a teacher who has touched your lives, maybe in elementary, or high school, or college and during this month, go and personally say 'Thank you' or send a text, send a letter, go to facebook and greet your teacher. That's our call to action," Metrobank Foundation President Aniceto Sobrepena said in an interview with the Philippines News Agency.
The NTM being organized by the NTM Coordinating Council, co-chaired by Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Armin Luistro and Sobrepena, has also been calling for the participation in the nationwide "National Prayer for Teachers" and "Ringing of Bells" to be conducted at exactly 10:05 a.m. on Oct. 5.
The National Prayer for Teachers has been made available in 40 languages and can be downloaded at the Publications Section of http://mbfoundation.org.ph.
Among other activities supporting the campaign being proposed by the council are trainings, seminars and conferences for teachers during the whole month celebration.
Prior to the culminating activity on World Teachers' Day on Oct. 5, Visayas DepEd Divisions comprised of Regions VI, VII, and VIII will be sending their teachers in Victorias City in Negros Occidental on Oct. 4 to also gather for the National Prayer for Teachers.
The NTM is being celebrated since 2011 pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 242 of President Benigno S. Aquino III declaring the "period from September 5 to October 5 of every year as National Teachers' Month." (PNA)
