HO CHI MINH CITY, Aug. 21 — The Vietnam International Hospital, Medical and Pharmaceutical Exhibition 2014 (Vietnam Medi- Pharm Expo 2014), the 14th edition of this kind ever held in the country, kicked off here on Thursday, attracting more than 250 local and foreign companies operating in the areas, local media reported Thursday.
Domestic and foreign exhibitors from 20 countries and territories including China, India, Germany, Singapore, South Korea, the United States and Thailand, present their latest products and technology with medicines, health equipment, ophthalmologic equipment and dental products during the three-day expo, local Saigon Times quoted sources from the organizers as reporting.
The event is expected to provide opportunities for enterprises to exchange experience and seek new trade partners.
According to the research and consulting firm GlobalData, the value of the Vietnamese pharmaceutical market is forecast to increase to 5 billion U.S. dollars this year, and to 8 billion dollars by 2020, at an annual growth rate of 15.4 percent.
Meanwhile, Ubifrance Vietnam said that Vietnam's medical equipment imports from foreign markets were estimated at over 634 million dollars in 2012 and about 1 billion dollars by 2015.
At present, 90 percent of medical equipment used in hospitals and medical stations in the country are imported from abroad, reports said. (PNA/Xinhua)
