ILAGAN CITY, ISABELA, Sept 18 (PNA) — Isabela governor Faustino G. Dy III has urged all education officials in Isabela to include disaster risk reduction and climate change in the school curriculum to ensure that even the pupils and students are knowledgeable enough on disaster risk reduction and climate change.
Dy made the appeal during the 1st provincial disaster risk reduction and climate change educators summit held at the Faustino N. Dy Sr session hall at the capitol on September 10, 2014.
He said school administrators and teachers have the great role in educating Isabeleno pupils and students to be prepared in times of calamities and understand climate change.
At least 400 education officials attended the summit and vowed to echo what transpired during the summit to their teachers and pupils.
Dy said it is important that all school officials and the pupils and students are informed as they have the ability to teach and influence the pupils and students, especially on disaster preparedness which is the key to safer community.
The provincial government of Isabela will be distributing textbooks, modules and pamphlets in disaster preparedness to all schools in Isabela as tools in educating the pupils and students.
Climate change commissioner Heherson Alvarez was the guest of honor and speaker during the summit where he explained the major causes of climate changes in the atmosphere and on mother earth.
We must reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere so that we can reduce the overheated earth and reduce calamities, Alvarez said.
Alvarez said it is everyones coordinated and united effort to mitigate and adapt climate changes and not only of the few but everybody must have a share. (PNA)
