Gov. Petilla takes pride of Leyte’s wins in Sinulog 2015

TACLOBAN CITY, Jan. 22

— LEYTE GOVERNOR LEOPOLDO DOMINICO PETILLA EXTENDS HIS CONGRATULATIONS TO LEYTE’S TWO FESTIVAL CONTINGENTS FOR WINNING IN THE RECENTLY CONCLUDED SINULOG FESTIVAL 2015.

THE PROVINCIAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE ALSO URGED THE LEYTE PROVINCIAL LEGISLATIVE BODY TO PASS A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE TWO LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNITS OF BUYOGAN FESTIVAL AND LINGGANAY FESTIVAL FOR THEIR BIG WIN IN CEBU CITY.

BOTH THE BUYOGAN AND LINGGANAY FESTIVAL CAME OUT AS BIG WINNERS, IN THE FREE INTERPRETATION CATEGORY OF THE SINULOG FESTIVAL WHERE TRIBU BUYOGANON OF ABUYOG, LEYTE CAPTURING THE FIRST PLACE WHILE TRIBU LINGGANAY OF ALANGALANG, LEYTE SETTLED FOR SECOND PLACE.

TRIBU BUYUGANON OF ABUYOG, LEYTE, WITH ITS INTERPRETATION OF THE “BEES” AND HOW THEY WERE CONVERTED TO THE FAITH OF THE HOLY CHILD, GOT THEM THE GRAND PRIZE, BESTING TRIBU HIMAG-ULAW OF PLACER, MASBATE WHICH DEFEATED THE BLACK AND ORANGE-CLAD “BEES” DURING THEIR LAST STINT IN 2011.

BUYOGANON BESTED 22 OTHER CONTINGENTS INCLUDING TWO OTHER OUT-OF-TOWN GROUPS AS IT SHOWCASED THE TOWN’S BUYOGAN FESTIVAL. IT LIKEWISE CAPTURED THE FOURTH PLACE IN THE STREET DANCING CATEGORY AND THE BEST IN MUSICALITY AWARD.

MEANWHILE, TRIBU LINGGANAY WHICH SHIED AWAY FROM ENTERING THE FESTIVAL COMPETITION LAST YEAR, FOLLOWING THE HEAVY DEVASTATION CAUSED BY TYPHOON YOLANDA, CAME BACK AND CAPTURED THE SECOND PLACE IN THE FREE INTERPRETATION CATEGORY WHILE PLACING FIFTH IN THE STREETDANCING COMPETITION.

THE CONTINGENT FROM ALANGALANG TOWN ALSO GAINED THE BEST IN COSTUME AWARD.

PETILLA EXTENDED HIS CONGRATULATIONS TO THE LEYTE CONTINGENT, SAYING THIS IS TRULY A VICTORY IN THE PROVINCE’S QUEST TO PROMOTE LEYTE, ESPECIALLY AS THE PROVINCE AND ITS TOWNS CONTINUE TO REVITALIZE ITS VARIOUS ECONOMIC AND TOURISM POTENTIALS AFTER THE SUPER TYPHOON IN 2013 AND OTHER DEVASTATIONS FROM NATURAL CALAMITIES IN 2014.

ON THE OTHER HAND, THE SANGGUNIANG PANLALAWIGAN OF LEYTE IN ITS REGULAR SESSION THIS WEEK APPROVED TO PASS A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE TWO CONTINGENTS FOR THEIR PERFORMANCE. A FINANCIAL INCENTIVE WAS LIKEWISE PROPOSED FOR THE TWO LGUS.

TRIBU KATBALAUGAN OF CATBALOGAN CITY IN SAMAR, A FIRST-TIMER IN THE SINULOG FEST, ALSO PLACED FOURTH IN THE FREE INTERPRETATIONS CATEGORY BESTING LOCAL FAVORITE LUMAD BASAKANON OF BASAK SAN NICOLAS, CEBU CITY, WHICH SETTLED FOR FIFTH PLACE.
