Rough-toothed dolphin stranded in Ilocos Sur beach now recovering

SINAIT, Ilocos Sur, Feb. 24 — A rough-toothed dolphin that was stranded along the beach in Barangay Pug-os here last Friday is now recovering in a concrete pond in Barangay Dadalaqueten, Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

Ilocos Sur Fishery Regulatory Officer Benny Saraos said the dolphin, a female, has a body length of 2.28 meters and weighs more or less 80 kilograms and has several scratch wounds in the different parts of its body.

He said the dolphin, which was too weak when found by local fishermen from the shoreline, has lost its direction due to the effect of blast fishing in mid-sea.

Saraos said that the latest rescued dolphin was the third one found in the beaches of Ilocos Sur since January this year. (PNA)
