CAUAYAN CITY, March 25 — The first SM Supermall in the province is set to join the local government unit in the worldwide observance of Earth Hour on Saturday, March 28.
SM Cauayan information officer Krystal Gayle Agbulig, said Earth Hour is already on its ninth year of observance with the theme, Change Climate Change and is again expected to unite hundreds of millions of people from more than 7001 cities and towns in 154 countries and territories across all the seven continents in protecting the planet by switching their lights off.
This will be the first time for SM City Cauayan to observe Earth Hour to inspire Cauayenos and Isabelinos to take a stand on the threats of global warming and to make a commitment to a low-carbon lifestyle by switching off their lights for an hour, Agbulig added.
The observance of Earth Hour at SM City Cauayan will commence with the ceremonial switching off of lights by the mall manager and the city mayor which will then be followed by drum beaters and fire dance performances.
Also taking part in the campaign are runners who will go around the town proper with their torch to bring light to the streets after the switching off of electric lights, Agbulig said.
The annual observance of Earth Hour aims to raise the consciousness of the people on environment care and protection. Furthermore, it is a positive act for the Mother Earth to prevent natural calamities brought by climate change, Agbulig explained.
SM Supermalls across the Philippines and its malls in China will simultaneously switch off their lights during Earth Hour, Agbulig said.(PNA)
