CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, June 23 — This city on Monday observed Environment Month with the participation of various groups, including students from 15 schools here.
Spearheaded by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), the celebration is part of the citys commitment to preserve and protect the environment.
CENRO officer Anele David underscored the efforts of the city in creating an urbanized yet environment-friendly community.
City Mayor Edwin D. Santiago said that one of his administrations agenda is the preservation and protection of the environment.
We are committed and dedicated in promoting clean and progressive city. But we are also ensuring the protection and preservation of our environment, Santiago said.
He said that various environmental measures have been implemented in the city that include the prohibition of using plastic bags and styro food packaging by the business establishments as well as consumers in the city.
Meanwhile, Mother Earth Foundation president Froilan Grate said they are supporting the efforts of the local government in creating a green city.
Grate pointed out the little things people could do to help save the environment such as saving water and electricity.
Other activities lined up for the Environment Month celebration include Arbor Day on June 26; Fernandino YES-O Network Environmental Youth Camp on June 26 28; the search for model barangays on ecological solid waste management best practices; and the launching of the search for cleanest barangay waterways on June 30.
