CEBU CITY, July 2 — The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB)-Region 7 of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) also here in Region 7 will add some P33 million worth of equipment to monitor pollution in Metro Cebu based on the standard set by the Clean Air Act.
MGB-7 Environmental Management Specialist Cindylyn Pepito said the equipment will be installed near the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu State College in Lapu-Lapu City and at the University of Cebu-Marine Education College (UC-MTEC) in Cebu City.
Pepito said at present, equipment to monitor pollution are installed at the DENR-7 regional office in Banilad, Mandaue City; Mabolo Police Station; Cebu Business Park, Cebu City; and City of Naga.
But only the pollution levels in Banilad, Mabolo, Cebu Business Park and in the City of Naga, where a cement plant is located, are monitored at present.
Pepito said the additional three new equipment will arrive in August this year, expanding the areas covered for monitoring.
Pepito said so far, the air quality in areas where the monitoring equipment are existing is still fair and not hazardous based on the standard set by the Clean Air Act.
Our air quality status is fair based on the samples taken from the four monitoring stations, Pepito said.
She said samples are examined for pollution contents based on total suspended particles from mobile sources such as vehicles using fossil-based fuel, and stationary sources like manufacturing firms and livestock farms. (PNA)
