City gov’t to deputize personnel to apprehend violators of solid waste management law

ILOILO CITY, July 13 — Personnel of the General Services (GSO) and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) have undergone training to become sanitary inspectors and consequently be deputized to be able to apprehend violators of the Solid Waste Management Act if needed.

GSO head Joren Sartorio said that they have already intensified their monitoring of proper waste disposal down to the district level.

He said that the city government personnel may send notices or deputized employees may issue citation tickets to violators.

Already, the city government in its drive to address the problem that has been causing the flooding in the city, has piloted one elementary school for its segregation at source to be replicated in other city public schools in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd). (PNA)
