DOST Calabarzon spells out science activities from July to November 2015

LOS BAÑOS, Laguna, July 15 (PNA) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region IV-A (Calabarzon) kicked off its science activities from July to November 2015 in ceremonies held at the Oasis New Hall Splash Mountain Resort here on Tuesday, July 14.

Dr. Alexander Madrigal PhD, Regional Director of DOST IV-A, presented to media practitioners and DOST provincial directors various activities under the theme ”Trailblazing the Road to Science Nation Tour: Achieving the Extra Mileage–Agham na Ramdam” that started with the media presentation.

Dr. Madrigal said other science activities have beenset such as the Infrastructure Audit on July 20-21, in coordination with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD).

He said that on July 24-28, DOST IV-A will join the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

On August 12-14, DOST IV-A will conduct “SYENSAYA” or Los Baños Science Festival together with the Los Baños Science Community Foundation, Inc. (LBSCFI)- a community established by the Department of Science and Technology in accordance with the Presidential Executive Order No. 784 in 1984, Dr. Madrigal said, adding the undertaking aims to foster the spirit of sharing of resources and expertise among research agencies located in Los Baños.

This will be followed by a Science Journalism Workshop on September 10 and 11.

The Regional Invention Contest and Exhibit (RICE) will be held on October 27-29. All inventors, students or professional creative researchers (from both public and private sectors) are invited to join this regional contest which will serve as the qualifying round for the 2016 National Invention Contests and Exhibits (NICE).

On November 18, DOST IV-A will award the winners of “Gaawad Tambuli “ for media practitioners which was last launched in 2010 followed by the holding of Regional Street Food Congress in Rizal province on the 19th and the ceremonial awarding of STARBOOKS – the science digital library that addresses the limitations of underserved areas in the country and will end with a press exit conference on November 20.

DOST Assistant Secretary for Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Raymund Liboro praised Director Madrigal and DOST IV-A for being the top performing DOST regional office for 2014 which was given in June, 2015 while at the same time acknowledging the important role of the media in bringing out to the public the plans and programs of the department that may help improved the lives of the less privileged.(PNA)
