LUBAO, Pampanga, April 13 — Forty traditional and special-shaped hot air balloons from different countries will take off the skies as the Lubao International Balloon Festival (LIBF) kicks off April 14 to 17 at Pradera Verde, Prado Siongco here.
LIBF president Noel Castro said the eight of the hot balloons are first timers that include the Taiwan’s Taitung’s most popular balloon “Kid’s Hooray.”
"Kid’s Hooray” serves as a good-will ambassador representing Taitung, which has already flown in countries, such as Australia, Vietnam, Canada, New Zealand and Spain.
The Taitung County Government and the Lubao International Balloon Festival Inc. (LIBF) have signed a “memorandum of understanding” (MoU) to have a better collaboration in the future and to further promote hot air balloon festivals in the region.
They have also invited the LIBF to join the Asia Hot Air Balloon Alliance which aims not only to promote Hot Air Balloon Festivals but also multi-destination travel in Asia.
Meanwhile, Castro said LIBF 2016 promises bigger and grander, more awesome activities both up in the air and on the ground.
He said that thousands of spectators are expected to flock in the annual event jampacked with spectacular flying exhibitions and on-the-ground fun activities
Aside from breathtaking hot-air balloon flights and aerial exhibitions, he said the festival will include fun on-ground entertainment such as street activities, land exhibits, and exciting musical performances by top Filipino artists such as Ely Buendia, Bamboo, True Faith, Sabado Boys and Mitoy & D’Draybers.
The morning flight is set from 5:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. and afternoon flight starts at 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., depending on the wind condition in the area.
Spectators who wish to ride on the hot air balloons will have to pay PHP15,000 per ride.
Fireworks displays will also culminate the night glow at 6 p.m. every day.
This is the third Lubao Hot Air Balloon Festival in Pampanga and is the biggest annual hot air balloon festival in the Southeast Asia.
Foodies will likewise enjoy the Kapampangan delights and other food concessionaires available at the food fair. (PNA)
